Why I’m taking Summer Classes

Summer classes at SIUE are a really nice way to get ahead or catch up on classes.  Since I graduate in December 2010 I am planning on taking a summer class or two to keep my last semester’s load of classes less demanding.  SIUE offers classes that only last a month in June and July.  This is really helpful because I was privileged to be asked by my boyfriend’s family to go to Scotland with them during June.  So the option to be able to knock out a class in a month, keep my school load low, graduate sooner, and still be able to travel and enjoy my summer is really beneficial to me.

Why I’m Proud to be a Cougar!

As a student at SIUE, I am proud to be a cougar for a couple reasons. One the campus is beautiful. The wild life and all the different plants add so much character to SIUE. But along with the campus I am also proud of the class sizes SIUE is able to offer students. The classes seem to be smaller compared to other universities, and I liked that once I was accepted into my program of study, the SIUE School of Business. I feel that the smaller class size allows students to get to know the professors and receive a better education. You become recognized by professors and you get to know them as well as you go through your major program as juniors and seniors. I also enjoy Edwardsville as a town. It is a friendly town and is so close to St. Louis so students can enjoy concerts and events that are held in the city. Even though I graduate in December 2010 with my bachelors, I am planning on returning to SIUE right away to receive my masters because I believe SIUE offers great programs for students.

My Experience Coming to SIUE

Before arriving at SIUE in January 2007 I was really nervous that I was not going to be able to make my way around the campus or find friends right away. But I was pleasantly surprised when the first day I moved into Bluff hall I was greeted by so many friendly people and made friends that I still have to this day. I felt like I fit in the instant I arrived and everyone around the campus were so helpful and made it easy to get around. Since I started attending SIUE I have felt the campus and the staff are really about the students. They provide so many events and opportunities for students. Right now I work at the Career Development Center at SIUE.  They offer students a chance to receive one-on-one resume critiques as well as career counseling.  I have taken advantage of these tools that the university offers and have been surprised how willing everyone was to help me out and help me succeed.

Why SIUE? From Lisa’s Perspective

I choose to attend Southern Illinois University Edwardsville because of the campus and the business program they offered. I also liked the idea of a small campus with a lot of diversity. I feel that having small classes allows students to receive a superior education and allows for more interaction with professors within each program. I grew up being close to Chicago but not living in the city and that was the kind of atmosphere I was looking for and I found it with SIUE.

When I started looking at universities four years ago I looked at Whitewater Wisconsin Northern Illinois University and Illinois State.  Each was located in a city and had a large number of students so when I learned about SIUE I visited and instantly felt this university was for me.

Meet Lisa Quarino

My name is Lisa Quarino and I am a senior at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. I am graduating in December 2010. I am majoring business administration with a concentration in marketing. I plan to attend graduate school after I graduate. I am not sure yet where I will attend graduate school. I feel it may be decided by where I get offered a job. I am from a small town called Spring Grove as known as Richmond Illinois. It’s about an hour from Chicago and an hour from Milwaukee. I plan on returning to the Chicago land area after graduation as well.

Outside of school I enjoy being outdoors and traveling. I would one day like to travel the world and experience many different cultures. My first stop will be Italy since I am Italian and have family that live there.

However on an everyday basis I enjoy fishing, boating, wakeboarding, snowboarding, shopping, listening to music, spending time with my family, friends and my boyfriend; just to name a few.
